The Ethel Epstein Ein Chapter was founded in December 1947 in memory of the late Mrs. Hyman Ein. The idea for this book was suggested shortly after by Mrs. J. Batist (Bessie), who was program chair at the time.
The title of the book was selected in a contest, and the winning title was suggested by Mrs. H. L. Schwartz and Miss Shirley Epstein. The women declined the silver tray, but were later gifted silver presentation pieces.
While the writers of each chapter are named, the recipes do not include submitter names. According to newspaper reports from the time Mrs. E. Davids, Sarah Ein, and Mrs. S. Warshaw were in charge of the recipes section and all recipes were submitted by members of the Ethel Epstein Ein Chapter.
